In the 8,000 sq. ft. facility, engineers work in brightly lit shops, don frocks to go in the cleanroom, and collaborate in conference rooms named after national parks. We joined a curated group of innovators, supply chain members, ecosystem collaborators, and Massachusetts State Senator Barry Finegold to see where Fikst makes the magic happen.

Mark Michalski, our Eastern MA manufacturing expert in residence, introduced the Fikst team and the event. Fikst designs and consults with designers on mechanical products, preparing them for high-volume manufacturing. Fikst performs in-house pilot runs of prototypes to ease the path to mass production.

We heard 30-second product pitches from four startups:

  • Paul Williams, CTO, LiftLabs, from Lowell, MA
  • Dr. J. Mauricio Galli Geleielate, Business Development, Emitech Inc of Fall River, MA
  • Ana Trapero Martín, founder, RhinUS in Cambridge, MA
  • Dr. Shawn Shetty, CEO, NuHand, from greater Boston

Tom Merle, Fikst’s general manager, said “We’d love to watch you grow and get you to a manufactured solution.” He and several other members of Fikst’s team led groups of guests on tours through Fikst’s two floors of fabrication labs and engineering space.

From machining to rapid prototyping, to silicone and elastomeric casting, Fikst is set up to solve a wide range of technical and design challenges for manufacturing. Fikst is the Danish word for well done and we certainly agree with that name. We left feeling inspired!
